It is a special event in Palm Springs when the verbena appear virtually overnight in the spring and explode in vibrant colour as seen in the painting. Fuchsia , pink, some with a purple glow. They grow so close together in the sand and are so stunning to see after the “winter" rains have stopped. The San Jacinto Mountains can be seen in the distance protecting the valley. The tree in the foreground is very sparse but lives for the summer while the hot spring sun scorches the verbena after 6 or 7 days!
