Acrylic on canvas, sides painted blue
This colourful painting possesses so many interesting Italian small village characteristics. This small old village church has a warmly painted exterior of burnt sienna with soft streaks of tan here and there as if it has received many coats of paint over the years, while the top the chapel is a pinkish grey colour. The shadows in the doorway and the steeple arise deep almost black while those on the side of the chapel are a deep purple. The roof is done in the characteristic style of reddish tiles typical of Italy. The stonework is popular in the area where one stone is balanced against another and remains in position through the ages - they have grey, tan, beige, burnt sienna and some very dark blue colours.
There is a small guy path in front of the little church and the grounds are overgrown with an abundance of lush trees and vines in a variety of greens, blue-greens, yellow-greens and medium green. The overgrown tree on the right of the canvas balances the chapel and there are abundant overgrown brilliant red flowers attempting to crawl up the huge tree. The sky is a brilliant blue so unique of an Italian summer day.
