La Gondola
La Gondola
Venice, Italy
24 X 24
Acrylic on canvas
This was painted in a small outdoor café (during Venetian siesta), which was ensconced in beautiful lush bright red and lively pink geraniums, and a wonderful awning to protect one from the unrelenting June sun! This charming café overlooked a delightful small back canal where most Venetians dwell. The tall ancient homes have a variety of interesting colours in this neighbourhood ranging from golds to reds and pink hues, each colour denoting an owned property in these unique buildings. The lights are turned off during siesta time and some windows are shuttered while others enjoy the fresh breezes. The sunlight sparkles on the canal and creates interesting reflections and colours in the water, as the wind caresses the water.
The Gondola is moored just below the café, for all of Venice is at rest for two hours and a feeling of peace and quiet pervades across the city on water. Even a small bird feels at home in this tranquil scene and sits in comfort on the gondola.
When the city awakes the gondolas will be moving swiftly along with their singing gondoliers, people will be bustling in the small café and music will be heard all over Venice as well as laughter and the delightful musical Italian language!
